Spring Term 2025

English
This term, the children have developed their writing skills by exploring the following texts: 'The Puffin Book of Fantastic First Poems' by June Crebbin, 'Last Stop on Market Street' by Matt de la Peña, 'Julian is a mermaid' by Jessica Love, 'Big Blue Whale' Nicola Davies and 'Dragon Post' by Emma Yarlett.
Maths
The children have developed their understanding of number and place value through column addition and subtraction. The children have continued to further their understanding of number and counting patterns for the 2,5,10 and 3 times tables as well exploring the relationship between multiplication and repeated addition. The children have begun to apply their knowledge to answer simple word problems.
Science
In science, the children explored microhabitats and went on a local exploration to investigate what living things they could find in the microhabitats in our woodland area. They then looked at life cycles of humans and how each stage develops, as well as what is important for living things to survive and grow healthily.

History
We investigated how we learned to fly and how significant people including the Wright Brothers, Bessie Coleman and Amelia Earhart influenced the flights we have today.

Geography
The children identified human and physical features in geography and explored 'why our world is wonderful'. They looked and famous features in the UK and then around the world, explaining whether they were human or physical features. The children also explored coastlines.

DT
In DT, the children designed and made their own pouches. They used templates, developed cutting skills of different materials and learned how to do a running stitch to join their materials. The children also designed the front of their pouch to decorate.

Art
The children explored patterns this term in art. They went on a nature walk to see what patterns they could see in the environment including concrete, grass, brick work and flowers. The children then used different items to recreate the patterns they found and used this to create a collage.

PSHE
This term, the children learnt about how to stay safe online and body changes including how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. We looked at the food groups and how each impacted our growing bodies and how we can maintain hygiene. We then moved on to explore economic well-being, identifying how adults can receive money, the difference between wants and needs and how children can create their own savings account and save money.
RE
The children learned about how some people feel a special connection to God and what religious stories can teach us. They also explored what prophets are.
Summer term 2025
In the Spring term, the children will be exploring narrative in English by looking at ‘The Lost Homework’ by Richard O’Neill, and instructional writing and learning about division, fractions and time Maths.
In the foundation subjects, we will be looking at what it is like to live by the coast, what is a Monarch, plant growth, using clay to make a model and cooking and nutrition.
