FAO Year 1 Weekly Roundup10 January 2025 (by Ellie Gath (Ellie Gath)) |
Hi Year 1,
The children have come back this term full of enthusiasm and have been eager to learn this week.
For our Curriculum this week we have been focusing on Sculpture in Art, and have produced some great colourful towers, before drawing these in 3D.
In English, we were introduced to our new book 'Stanley's Stick', where the children had a discussion about something which they bring with them everywhere, linked to the stick in our story which a boy called Stanley brings everywhere and imagines that it is a rocket, a spoon, a banana and various other things. We then used our own imagination to think about what we might pretend a stick could be. We tried to use these ideas in longer sentences, using 'and' to add more information and make a better sentence.
In Maths, we have begun to understand the concept of doubles and halves, whereby double is 'adding itself' and halves are splitting the number into two equal groups. We looked at this using various resources such as counters, fruit and tens frames.
In PSHE we talked about the rules we have in school and why these are important. Also in RE we thought about what Christians believe about God, and recapped what religion is.
Thanks everyone, hope you have a relaxing weekend!
Miss Gath
