Year 1 Weekly Roundup 17/01/25
Hi Year 1,
This week our Curriculum focus was DT- we have been designing and making puppets based on the story 'Little Red Riding Hood' using felt and safety pins.
In English we have continued looking at our book 'Stanley's Stick' and have created our own mini books with front covers, illustrations, and sentences about what happened in the story, followed by pieces of writing about what we would pretend our stick might be, whilst using the words 'and' and 'because' to make longer sentences. We always try to remember our 3 rules for writing sentences: 'capital letters, finger spaces and full stops'.
In Maths we started the week looking at what makes a number odd or even, and how we can see a pattern of these on a number line. After this, we have moved on to looking at 2D and 3D shapes. We used a saying to remember the difference between these: '2D shapes are FLAT, 3D shapes are NOT'.
Next week we are going to introduce weekly library time, where the teacher will read the story and then the children can take out a library book, which I think the children will really enjoy.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend :)
Many thanks,
Miss Gath
